My Home Is Across The Blue Ridge Mountains
Lyrics:
My Home is Across the Blue Ridge Mountains - Traditional Arrangement Danny Knicely
Chorus:
My home’s across the Blue Ridge Mountains
My home’s across the Blue Ridge Mountains
My home’s across the Blue Ridge Mountains
And I never expect to see you anymore
Don’t be cryin’ on my shoulder
Don’t be cryin’ on my shoulder
Don’t be cryin’ on my shoulder
For I never expect to see you anymore
Chorus
How can I keep from cryin’
How can I keep from cryin’
How can I keep from cryin’
Never expect to see you anymore
Chorus
So goodbye my little darlin’
So goodbye my little darlin’
So goodbye my little darlin’
I never expect to see you anymore
Chorus

Song notes:
All proceeds from the sale of "My Home Is Across The Blue Ridge Mountains" go directly to 'We Help Nepal', an organization actively working on the ground in Nepal with disaster relief and development projects.
Danny Knicely, Tara Linhardt and Jacob Penchansky produced a movie and a companion cd called The Mountain Music Project back in 2009. My Home Is Across The Blue Ridge Mountains comes from that beautiful project which illuminates the parallel experiences of traditional musicians from Virginia and Nepal, and on it you hear a surprisingly natural combination of sounds from both places. On this American Civil War era song Abigail Washburn and myself sing to a backing of traditional Nepali instruments - sarangi (fiddle) and madal (drum) – mixed with the American fiddle, dobro and guitar.
When an earthquake hit Nepal on April 25th of this year, Danny immediately checked the status of his Nepali musician friends, and found that many of them were now homeless. Danny and Tara’s desire to help resulted in this track’s release on Short Order Sessions. My SOS partner Jan Fabricius and I are honored to help in some small way by releasing this as a benefit on SOS. The quake measured 8.1 on the Richter scale, hence the catalogue# SOS-8.1. Special thanks to Abigail Washburn and City Hall Records for their support.
